Alex Ovechkin, from Moscow, had been offered with a deal that people dubbed as “the most valuable contract in the NHL history.” He signed for a hundred-million dollars worth of contract.

Professional Career
In 2008, barely three (3) years from playing at the NHL, Alex Ovechkin has inked a deal that guarantees his professional hockey career thirteen (13) more years and $124 million dollars salary. No other NHL players have entered into such an extensive agreement as of late.

The historic contract is attributed to the fact that Alex Ovechkin has made a historic record for the NHL, as well. At the age of 23, Ovechkin has already skated off four major NHL awards: the Calder Memorial Trophy in 2005-06 season, Rocket Richard and Art Ross Trophies and Hart Memorial Trophy in 2007-08 season. No other hockey player took home four major NHL awards.

Early Career
Alex Ovechkin may have come from Moscow, but with his family’s gift for sports, it is not hard to imagine the Ovechkins as descendants of the strong and agile Greeks. His father played football (soccer) on a professional level while his mother was an Olympic gold medalist (for basketball). Indeed, Ovechkin was born to be an athlete.

Although Alex Ovechkin has the blood and environment that make a great athlete, still, it is his determination to succeed that has made him one of the best left-winger of the history of NHL.

He was passionate about hockey since his parents could remember. When he picked up a hockey stick and a helmet when he was two, his parents knew by then that Alex Ovechkin would have a long and strong relationship with the game on ice. His skills and talent were evident as early as 10 years old.

Bobbleheads, the popular figurine collectibles frequently made in the likeness of baseball players, are believed to date from 19th century Europe. The first recorded reference to a bobblehead dates to 1842 when a character in a German short story is described as having a neck "like the neck of plaster cats which wag their heads."

Modern bobbleheads debuted in the mid-1950s and by the end of that decade major league basketball had fully adopted the concept. The first of MLB's bobbleheads were papier-mache dolls, nearly indistinguishable from one another. The face of each of these early bobbleheads bore the same angelic features. A bobblehead was produced for each team, rather than any particular player, and the small team uniform was the only way to tell them apart.

For the 1960 World Series, major league baseball released bobbleheads featuring player-specific uniforms. Bobbleheads were created for Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Roberto Clemente, and Roger Maris, though all four shared the same face. The papier-mache construction of these dolls made the bobbleheads quite fragile and, unfortunately, quite destructible as well. Very few of the 1960s bobbleheads survive today.

By the early 1970s a new generation of bobblehead dolls, this time constructed with ceramic materials, gained in popularity. The bobblehead tradition expanded beyond baseball into other sports and into the realm of popular culture. Cartoon characters and popular musicians became the inspiration for new bobbleheads. For instance, a Beatles bobblehead set released in this era become quite iconic and maintains its popularity (and value) to this day.

In baseball, however, bobbleheads waned in popularity due to the production costs associated with ceramic materials. By 1980, neither Major League Baseball nor any individual baseball teams were producing the bobbleheads. For nearly two decades it seemed as though the bobblehead might be consigned to drift quietly into the pages of history.

Basic economics once again brought the bobblehead back to prominence. By the 1990s new production methods enabled producers to substitute plastic for the costly and fragile ceramic that had been previously used. Costs plummeted and plastic bobbleheads became cost efficient to mass produce.

The rookie baseball card is a card issued for a player's first year in the major leagues -- and in some circumstances even before they have arrived in the big leagues. Because of this, a rookie card is the first in the chain of cards that may be released by trading card companies for a particular player. When baseball card collecting first began in earnest, rookie cards were rarely sought-after. There was one predominant reason for this. A young player, having just arrived on the major league scene, was a relative unknown. Players typically took some years to reach their prime and begin producing significant stats.

As a result of this, the baseball cards of these major league "rookies" were often tossed aside in favor of cards of established star players. Years later, after a particular player had established himself and demand for collectibles bearing his likeness was high, collectors discovered that the rookie card was the hardest to find. Due to the law of scarcity, the rookie card became the most valuable.

At the post game news conference a determined Tebow addressed the national media. In an earnest and powerful address Tebow apologized for his team's lackluster performance and promised a renewed determination regarding Florida's remaining games.

One thing was clear after this defeat: Florida would have to finish the season undefeated in order to accomplish their goal and win a second championship in three seasons. The loss to Ole Miss invigorated the Gators and the remainder of the season found them playing with a new resolve. The Gators, behind their leader Tim Tebow, finished the conference schedule without a loss. After a victory in the SEC championship game, it became clear that Florida would play for another national championship.

Once again, Tim Tebow found himself in the brightest of national spot lights and once again he did not disappoint. He led Florida to another national championship with a second half surge against the Oklahoma Sooners. He finished the season third in the balloting for Heisman trophy (despite receiving the most first place votes) and committed to return for his senior season.

There has been little that Tim Tebow has not accomplished thus far in his career. One thing is certain: The leadership and determination he has displayed has not been seen in college athletics in a very long time and likely won't be repeated anytime soon -- maybe ever.

Collectors and investors have taken notice of the rookie card phenomenon and the interest in rookie cards has greatly escalated. Today, there are dealers around the country specializing in rookie card collectibles and business shows no signs of abating. An even more recent phenomenon of collecting minor league cards, which pre-date a rookie card, has also emerged. Additionally, card grading agencies have sprung forth to grade rookie cards for quality and collectors have begun to search out high grade rookie cards.

There are many factors that determine a rookie card's value. The most obvious is the scarcity of the card. For rookie cards published before the 1980s, supply is more limited due to smaller production runs. As card collecting became more popular, trading card companies increased the number of issues in a printing, reducing scarcity. Besides scarcity the most common determinant of a rookie cards value is its condition or grade.
